Bravery for Your Root Canal

About Me

Bravery for Your Root Canal

No one enjoys serious dental procedures like a root canal, but many people outright ignore their dental health because they're too anxious or afraid to go through treatment. I did the very same thing myself when my dentist told me one of my molars could only be saved by a quick root canal. I ended up losing the tooth because I put off the treatment too many times out of fear. Now I work hard to encourage other dental patients to find ways to overcome their anxiety so they can get the care they need and save their teeth before it's too late.

Three Common Questions About Braces

The only way to fix some problems with your teeth is with braces. While it is quite the common treatment, many people have misconceptions about what it involves. Not knowing prevents people from understanding how braces can be a viable option to correct problems with crooked teeth. Here are 3 questions you may have about braces.

Can An Adult Get Braces?

Many people wrongly assume that braces are only for teenagers that are looking to correct their crooked teeth. The truth is that anybody can wear braces, no matter how old they are.

The main problem with getting braces as an adult is that the correction process can take longer. This is because teeth are harder to correct when they've been in the same position for a long time.

How Can Braces Look Discreet?

Many people are put off by the thought of wearing braces because of how they look. There is a certain stigma that comes with braces.

Thankfully, there are now alternative options to traditional braces that are a bit more discreet. Clear braces are one method that can work, and they will be a very cost effective option when you want it to be discreet.

Invisalign is also an option, but it is best used on adults rather than teenagers. Kids tend to leave the trays out of their mouth for too long or lose the trays. Replacing missing trays will be expensive and may be something you would rather not deal with if you are paying the bill. Adults are generally more responsible with using Invisalign trays.

How Long Are Braces Worn?

Your dentist will try to minimize your time in braces to as little as necessary. Unfortunately, it is impossible to know how long it will take for braces to make the necessary corrections. Any estimate given will be rough, and you won't know for sure how long it will take until the day the braces come off.

That said, some forms of orthodontics are more effective than others. Traditional braces can be used for more aggressive adjustments when you have to make major corrections. That is because a bracket is installed on each individual tooth and can be tightened accordingly. Expect more a discreet method to take longer to make the necessary corrections.

Still not sure if you want to move forward with getting braces? Contact a local dentist for a consultation regarding your crooked teeth.
